March 30th is “National I am in control day”. For some, this may not need a holiday as this is every day. But are you really in control? Do you want to be in control? What is control?
Do you try to plan everything? This may sound odd coming from someone who does planning for a living, but you cannot plan for everything.
Having a plan is ideal. Business owners should have a business plan. Everyone should have a financial plan to prepare for their future, and everyone should have a daily plan. But having a plan and being in control are a little different.
Sometimes, plans change. When we plan, we want to create a plan for the worst case scenario and the best case scenario. We don’t always know what is going to happen and we know that plans change, ALL THE TIME. I meet with my clients to review plans frequently depending upon the frequency of those changes. Having a plan is our map, sometimes there is traffic or construction or maybe some sightseeing we want to do along the way that takes us on a little detour. That doesn’t mean we aren’t going to achieve our Dream. It simply means we are not taking the original path to get there.
A change in plan does not need to be a deal breaker. Change can be exciting! Change can lead to new adventures, new opportunities we didn’t see earlier, and maybe it’s scary for you but don’t let it scare you away from planning at all.
